Neal Bates, three-times Australian Rally Champion, has 10 holiday tips for stress-free motoring, to help save fuel and ensure a comfortable and safe journey over these Easter holidays.
1. Try not to leave the car idling for long periods of time. If there is a significant delay in the traffic, it is more fuel efficient to switch off the engine for the duration of the wait and then re-start it.
2. Always keep tyre pressure at the manufacturer's specification. Low tyre pressure creates more drag (wind resistance) and uses extra fuel - it's like riding a pushbike with flat tyres.
3. Aggressive driving wastes fuel. Speeding, rapid acceleration and frequent braking uses more fuel than smooth, consistent driving. Cruise control, overdrive and smooth throttle applications contribute to more fuel-efficient driving, especially on the highway.
4. Keep your car well serviced. Clean air filters and fuel filters will help ensure the vehicle is maintained at its greatest level of fuel efficiency.
5. Toyota Genuine seat covers are a comfortable addition to your car. They have the added safety advantage of being specially designed and rigorously tested by Toyota to ensure that they fit properly and do not compromise front seat side airbag deployment in Toyota vehicles.
6. Intuitive Toyota Genuine ParkAssist - Reverse Parking Sensors use ultrasonic technology to audibly alert drivers to obstacles the vehicle is approaching so that they can be safely avoided. The Reverse Parking Sensors are discreetly mounted in the rear bumper of new Toyota vehicles and can be fitted to older models at your local Toyota Service Centre.
7. Toyota Genuine Roof Racks and Towbars are the perfect solution when carrying bulky luggage on holidays. Both undergo stringent testing, including stress and load distribution tests, so you can tow and carry with security and confidence.
8. No trip is complete without your favourite music to sing along to or to soothe on-road nerves, and Toyota provides a range of audio upgrade options. You could upgrade from a single CD to a convenient six in-dash CD Changer, or go high tech with MP3-compatible CD or even Toyota Genuine Satellite Navigation* options to enhance any trip. The added convenience of hands-free Blue Tooth communication via the audio or Satellite Navigation systems is available on some Toyota models.
9. Take the time to check the water, oil, fuel and tyre pressure levels of the vehicle are correct before starting off of an extended road-trip, and top them up if necessary.
10. Lastly, for the safety of yourself, your passengers and others on the road, ensure that you as the driver are well rested, have plenty of fluids and stick to the speed limits while on the road.
Wherever you are these Easter holidays, there is a Toyota Service Centre nearby to assist with any of your vehicle or motoring needs. For more information and advice on better holiday motoring or to locate a Toyota Service Centre, contact 1800 TOYOTA (869 682) or visit www.genuine.toyota.com.au and have a safe holiday.
Note: All Toyota Genuine Accessories purchased and fitted to a Toyota are warranted for the remainder of the New Vehicle Warranty or 12 months, whichever is greater. Toyota Genuine Accessories purchased from an authorised Toyota Dealer over the counter are warranted from the date of purchase for one year (unlimited kilometres). Conditions apply. |
