Toyota Australia has become a corporate member of the newly-established Australian Institute for Motor Sport Safety (AIMSS). AIMSS has been founded by the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) to promote improvements in the safety of motor sport. In addition, the new body will also promote the relationship between motor sport and road safety. Toyota has been a long-time participant in the Australian Rally Championship (ARC) through its Toyota Racing Development team, including former three-time ARC champion Neal Bates and 2006 NEC ARC champion and current points' leader in 2007, Simon Evans.
Toyota is also a supporter of Motorsport Safety Rescue, which provides First Intervention Vehicles (FIVs) and rescue teams at a number of motorsport events around Australia, including the ARC. Motorsport Safety Rescue uses a Toyota LandCruiser with support from Toyota Australia. "Safety is a key priority for Toyota - from designing and manufacturing our production vehicles through to when we go racing," said David Buttner, Toyota Australia's senior executive director marketing and sales. "By becoming a corporate member of AIMSS, Toyota wishes to both make a contribution to motor sport safety in Australia and increase our knowledge of motor vehicle safety through this newly-formed body. "By acknowledging the relationship between motor sport and road safety, AIMSS has established an effective platform from which Toyota can synergise its research into both areas, to help it arrive at solutions that increase safety on the road and on the track." ...ends/ 46220 - 1 |
