25/6/2008 Ford Performance Racing's enduro drivers, Luke Youlden and Dean Canto, both got an hour behind the wheel at yesterday's V8 Supercar Championship test at Winton Motor Raceway.
The pair, who have twice been in the car for 30 minutes at earlier rounds, said the longer session gave them time to find a rhythm and both were impressed with the FPR Falcon.
"I've been fortunate to drive with some pretty good teams in V8 but they all achieve their times in slightly different way," said Youlden, who got a podium at Bathurst in 2003. "The FPR car is a bit stiffer in the chassis so you have to drive it a bit smoother, but it's doing the times so I'd have to say it's one of the better car's I've driven."
As yet, no decision has been made on driver pairings but Canto says that does not faze him. "It doesn't really matter as far as driving style," he said. "You just have to match the full-time driver and, looking at the data, we all drive in a very similar way. At the end of the day it will be up to the engineers."
Canto and Youlden will make up FPR's four-driver team at the 2008 V8 Supercar Championship enduro rounds at Phillip Island (September 12-14) and Bathurst (October 8-12). |
