Toyota gears up for Goodwood |

10/7/2008 Toyota will showcase some of its finest racing cars and give a glimpse into personal transport in the future when it throws its support behind the 2008 Goodwood Festival of Speed in the United Kingdom.
Fresh from its role as featured marque at last year's festival, Toyota will demonstrate the Corolla WRC rally car, TS010 Le Mans 24 Hours podium finisher and last year's Formula 1 car, the TF107.
Four-time World Rally Champion Juha Kankkunen will drive the Corolla WRC, which will be making its Goodwood debut.
The Corolla WRC was campaigned by Toyota from 1997 to 1999, when along with a string of victories it secured the company its second manufacturers' title in 1999 in Toyota's final year in the world championship.
The TS010 finished second at the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours in 1992 and is a reminder of Toyota's successful stint in endurance racing in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
The TS010 was created with assistance from legendary sportscar designer Tony Southgate and powered by a 3.5-litre V10 engine. Former Toyota works Le Mans pilot Toshio Suzuki will drive it at Goodwood.
Toyota's third car, the TF107, will be running at speed up the Goodwood sprint course with Panasonic Toyota Racing's third driver, Kamui Kobayashi, behind the wheel.
The appearance of a Toyota F1 car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed continues a tradition that has been in place since the company debuted in the sport in 2002.
Also performing demonstrations will be the i-REAL, Toyota's small, three-wheeled working concept vehicle that is the company's vision for the future of everyday, sustainable personal transport.
The i-REAL is a key element in the festival's showcase for advanced engineering and design and will feature in driving demonstrations on the hill-climb course and in a specially designed arena.
Also set to compete is New Zealand motorsport legend Rod Millen who will drive his 1994 Pike's Peak Hill Climb-winning Celica, and former Japanese F3 Champion Peter Dumbreck who will drive a Toyota Aygo Crazy.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed is one of the world's biggest and most diverse classic motor sports event, attracting the greatest names in world motorsport.
Held in the grounds of Goodwood House south of London, the 2008 Goodwood Festival of Speed runs across three days from 11-13 July. |
