Toyota outpaces market growth |
|
|
|
3/10/2008 Toyota Australia is heading for its sixth consecutive year of market leadership with sales growth in 2008 outpacing the overall market.
Official sales figures (VFacts) released today show Toyota sales have grown 5.1 per cent so far this year to an industry record of almost 184,000.
During the same nine-month period, overall industry sales have risen 0.3 per cent - also at record levels.
Toyota's sales for the nine months to September 30 are almost 9,000 ahead of the same period last year.
It is the only local manufacturer to record a sales increase during 2008.
Toyota has a sales lead of more than 84,000 vehicles over its nearest rival and is more than 102,000 ahead of the third-placed competitor.
At the same time, Toyota has lifted its market share a full percentage point to 23.4 per cent.
The company's senior executive director David Buttner said Toyota's range of vehicles and strong dealer network were the main contributors to the results.
"Overall industry sales remain at record levels, even though the market has been tougher in recent months," Mr Buttner said.
"We recognise that the support of our customers has enabled us to grow our market share - even in a record market," he said.
Toyota Yaris, Corolla, Camry, Prado, LandCruiser, HiAce van and bus, HiLux 4x2 and HiLux 4x4 are all leading their segments, while Prius is the best-selling hybrid vehicle.
Record sales for the nine months have been achieved by Toyota Corolla, Prius, Kluger, Prado, HiAce van and bus and HiLux 4x4. |
