Forester wins top Canadian award PDF Print E-mail
27/10/2008
The new generation Subaru Forester has been selected by the Automotive Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) as the year's best SUV/CUV in the under-35,000 Canadian dollars category.

The announcement was made at the Niagara Drive Centre, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, at AJAC's annual TestFest, where Canada's top automotive journalists gathered for a five-day evaluation of over 160 new models.

The rigorous testing program includes real-world driving on public roads - exactly where consumers drive - so that the test data and vote results are relevant to potential buyers.  The journalists evaluate every detail, from safety features to cargo capacity, to select the best new vehicles in various categories then rate them by secret ballot.  To win its category, the entry-level Forester 2.5X with a 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine beat the Volkswagen Tiguan and Dodge Journey.

"The competition was tough in this category, which makes a win all the more impressive," said Clare Dear, president of AJAC.

"I think the clincher may have been the Forester's impressive off-road capability. The new Forester has a refined look and feel-but it proved it could perform flawlessly on the most challenging terrain."

Like every Subaru, the 2009 Forester is equipped with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. And, like every generation of Forester, the third generation blends positive Compact SUV attributes, including a high seating point and interior versatility, with passenger car comfort, handling and fuel efficiency in an exceptionally well-equipped package.

"We are thrilled with this latest tribute to the new Forester, and send thanks and congratulations to all the designers and engineers who worked so hard to make the 2009 Forester such an outstanding vehicle," said Katsuhiro Yokoyama, president and CEO of Subaru Canada, Inc.

"The new Forester has been breaking sales records across Canada since it first appeared in dealerships, and was recently named SUV of the Year by Motor Trend magazine. I'd say the AJAC award makes the verdict unanimous."

The 14 Canadian Car of the Year category winners now go on to compete to be named either the 2009 Canadian Car of the Year or the 2009 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year.

AJAC will announce the overall winners on February 11, 2009, at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, Ontario.
